American film actress Melanie Griffith was born on August 9, 1957 in New York City to Tippi Hedren, a model and actress, and Peter Griffith, an advertising executive and an actor for a short period of time. Melanie's career kicked off when she was just 9 months old, when she starred in a commercial. Melanie appeared in her first film when given an extra role in the drama "Smith!" in 1969. She again starred as an extra in another movie called "The Harrad Experiment" in 1973.

Melanie's first major part was in the 1975 movie "Night Moves." After her career dwindled for almost a decade due to substance abuse, Melanie made several comeback films such as "Body Double" in 1984, "Something Wild", in 1986, and "Working Girl" in 1988. Melanie received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress, and earned the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy.
